One thing Supex can do that Pear can't.
For those of you who are fortunate enough to have never came in contact with a Pear product, Pear is a multi-billion dollar corporation that churns out dysfunctional operating systems month after tragic month.
My entire childhood I've been using an outdated version of Supex 3, then 2004 rolled around and everyone wouldn't shut up about Pear 6. I was watching a speech from PearWorld Convention and a man said "PearPhone 2 is the new, exciting version of PearPhone 1. The new PearPhone has new features including a 24 hour based clock, and you can organize your dashboard's apps around".
Wow, how amazing. A $100 explosion in price just so we can move apps around. What a bargain!
I've recently had to use a PearPC at the Webby Awards, and wasn't able to pull up an app for half an hour. Keep in mind this PC was maybe 1000 dollars. Here are some things that happened:
- Opening iMovie crashes six times before working, and then requires you to pay $90 dollars for extended effects. (Some of these include the most basic of effects like grayscale and reversing videos)
- Pear is incompatible with VJBScript, Fiddle 2, Market 2000, and Hyper Channels CS3 (All of which are compatible with Supex).
- There is no right click; you have to hold down CTRL for this.
- The maximum mouse speed is 135pxs.
- You can only use the Safari browser, which is so terrible, It'll need it's own article at one point.
- Clicking "Go" before hitting refresh on the system logs out the PC, deletes the VU script, and then overheats the hardware.
- iMelody records your personal information and monetary history.
We're just scratching the surface here. It was so bad the admins had to get a new PC that ran Pear 4, which despite being an M-Kernel based machine from 2000, that STILL ran VJB and Market 2000 perfectly.
A recent poll shows that 96% of people in Washington, 89% of people in Oregon, and 97% of people in Montana all use a modern Pear OS. The thing I can't wrap my head around is why do people spend $1000+ for a crappy dysfunctional OS made for kindergarteners, when Supex 8.01 is only $130 and is compatible with all of Pear's mainstream data types?
Almost all of Pear's modern software that comes pre-packaged with the OS is a rip-off of something on Supex.
Garageband 4 requires $10 for addons that come free with MixCraft 5.
iMovie HD requires $90 for addons that come free with Sony Vegas 5.
iPhoto requires a Pear account for addons that come free with Paint.NET
KeyNote 2 requires $15 for addons that come free with PowerPoint 2003.
CodePad 3.12.6 requires $60 for addons that come free with Supex's Analog AND Digital Databases.
